Revelation - The Venusian Arts

Revelation (2008) is the company bible for Mystery’s pickup training company, VenusianArts.com. The book was written by Chris Odom, and includes contributions from Mystery, Matador, and Lovedrop.

From the back cover of the book:

Over the past ten years, we have systematically developed the most effective methods in the world for attracting and dating beautiful women.

Our ideas first came to mainstream prominence in Neil Strauss’ best-selling book, The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists and then later on the television show The Pickup Artist on VH1.

We have cracked the code to human emotions and social intelligence, and now our mission is to continually refine our art and to make this technology available to others who seek to learn it.

As our thousands of students worldwide have learned for themselves, our system is real, and it gets results. Whether you want to feel socially empowered, you’re looking to meet the right girl, or you just want better results, the Venusian Arts can make it happen for you.

Comparing Revelation to The Mystery Method, and then to The Pickup Artist, Lovedrop said:

Revelation is a deep exploration of the same subject matter [as The Mystery Method] but Revelation is a completely different book. It contains very subtle, deep and high content and is meant to be taken in over time. I use it for training instructors. It is also more comprehensive than the first book, it’s up-to-date, and better captures the essence and nuance of Mystery’s game. Revelation will serve, long into the future, as the official company bible here at Venusian Arts. The form of the book is like a grimoire. (A spellbook.)

But Revelation is too much intensity for a mainstream audience and at $150, it’s too expensive as well. We needed a $20 book for the mainstream audience, a book that laid out Mystery’s complete system, once and for all, and in a fun way. A book we could also use as our official bootcamp handout in the future. We needed to do this while capturing Mystery’s voice, and his new ideas, in his own words, as well as preserving his original legendary writings that brought him to the forefront of the underground seduction community in the first place, while infusing the book with the feeling of his presence. You know, Mystery is a really fun guy, and The Mystery Method didn’t capture that at all.

We intend for [The Pickup Artist] to spread its way out there in the world, for the long-term. That means it must be a book that is read. It can’t be too dry like the first book, and it can’t be so deep and full as Revelation. It has to be a light read – a fresh book, a fun book, like The Game — but in Mystery’s voice. A book that leads the reader like an amusement park ride through learning our most up-to-date concept of game. We look at The Pickup Artist as the book that, ten years from now, someone who wanted to read about Mystery and learn from Mystery, would buy and have on their shelf. The book you “have to have” on the subject.

So you see, The Pickup Artist and Revelation are two very different, yet complementary books. We are very happy with the new book because we believe it will appeal to fans of The Game, while still providing the nuts and bolts of pickup knowledge and techniques that people really want when they buy a book like this. The Pickup Artist delivers on both counts. Whereas Revelation is a subtler spellbook, meant for an artist, a philosopher, an advanced student of the game…
